Remote Learning

Scenarios for Remote Education
Remote education will be used when pupils cannot receive in-person education, either due to academy closures, restrictions on attendance, or in individual cases where a pupil is unable to attend school but is able to learn.

Commitment to Quality
Medeshamstede Academy is committed to providing high-quality, meaningful, and ambitious remote education when attendance in person is not possible. Plans will be regularly reviewed in consultation with staff to ensure they remain relevant and considerate of the needs of pupils, families, and staff.

Provision and Access
Remote learning will aim to mirror the core teaching time pupils would receive in person, adapted to their age, stage of development, individual circumstances and home environment. Provision may include live or recorded teaching, independent tasks, reading and assignments. High-quality external resources, such as Oak National Academy, may be used where appropriate.

Digital Inclusion
The academy will work to overcome barriers to digital access by providing printed resources if required.

Leadership and Safeguarding
A designated senior leader will oversee the quality and delivery of remote education, ensuring safeguarding arrangements are in place and to check that pupils are safe and engaging with their learning.

If Remote Learning Isn’t Possible

Some pupils with SEND may not be able to access remote education. In such circumstances, the academy will work collaboratively with families and put arrangements in place that allow pupils with SEND to access remote education successfully. In this situation, decisions on how provision can be delivered should be informed by relevant considerations, including the support families will require and types of services that the pupil can access remotely.
It may be challenging or impossible for the school to deliver remotely the kind of approach that it does in the classroom. If this is the case, the school will instead consider, in cooperation with the local authority other ways in which it and the local authority can meet its statutory duties, working closely with the parents or carers.
