Medeshamstede Academy

Relationships Education, Health Education and Sex Education

At Medeshamstede Academy our RSHE curriculum helps and supports young people through their physical, emotional and moral development. We teach students about the importance of marriage or other committed relationships for family life, stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care. We also teach students about sex, sexuality and sexual health. Our programme enhances the self-worth and confidence of each individual and encourages mutually respectful relationships and empathy for others.

Our curriculum is carefully designed to meet the specific needs of all learners while ensuring that age-appropriate content remains a priority. We adapt lessons as needed to support individual learning requirements, creating an inclusive and accessible approach for every pupil. To ensure high-quality provision, our practice is guided by the latest information and recommendations from the PSHE Association, helping us structure content that is both relevant and developmentally appropriate.

Right to Withdraw

Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from lessons where non-statutory content is being taught. If you wish to exercise this right, please inform the Principal in writing. Pupils who are withdrawn will be provided with appropriate alternative work in a separate setting. While this right exists, we strongly encourage parents and carers to consider the value of these lessons, what is taught, and how it is delivered, as this education is important for all children.
