Pupil Premium and PE and Sports Premium Funding

Pupil Premium

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals and their wealthier peers, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantages reaches the pupils who need it most.

Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how Pupil Premium, which is allocated to schools per pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However, they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families and pupils of families who are serving armed forces personnel.

PE and Sports Premium

PE and Sports Premium is additional funding from the government to provide additional funding for primary school sport and activity provision. The funding is to be spent on improving and enhancing the quality and opportunity in sports provision for all children in our school.

Through the spending of this money, it is the intention of Medeshamstede Academy to:

  • Raise the standard of PE provision in the school through the development of professional skills of staff
  • Increase the range and provision of sports opportunities within school
  • Increase the range and provision of competitive sports opportunities
  • Ensure the acquisition of resources to effectively deliver the extended provision
